M-STEP Assessment
This spring, Michigan is replacing the 44-year old Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) with a new assessment called the Michigan Student Test of Education Progress, otherwise known as M-STEP.

In prior school years, students in grades 3-8 were administered the MEAP test over a two week period in October.  This school year, students will complete the new M-STEP assessment in an online format within a three-week testing window, established by the State of Michigan, during April through early June.  During this three-week window, students will not be testing every day, all day.

The M-STEP includes assessments designed by the Michigan Department of Education to effectively measure academic growth for today’s students.  English language arts (including reading, writing, and listening) and mathematics will be assessed in grades 3-8 and 11, science in grades 4, 7, and 11, and social studies in grades 5, 8, and 11.

Information on Proposal 1
On May 5, 2015, Michigan voters will be asked to approve a 1 cent sales tax increase to help fund Michigan’s roads and schools. This proposal came about as a last-ditch effort by the Michigan Legislature to find a desperately needed road funding fix during the lame duck session in December 2014.  CLICK HERE to read a letter from Superintendent Walmsley about Proposal 1

DECA - RHS had three students attend the DECA State Conference - Christian Faila, Makenzy Gaigalas, and Eric Donato.  Students were required to take a written exam and participate in two different business related role plays that were judged by business professinals.  Both Christian and Makenzy were awarded a medal for being a state finalist, which means they were in the top three within their group.  Makenzy also received a medal for having one of the top scores on the written exam.  These are the first medals that RHS has won at this level.  Congratulations to Mr. Brown and our DECA state winners!

MSBOA State Solo and Ensemble - Congratulations to Rachel Rigole as she represented Richmond High School at the State Solo and Ensemble this past weekend at Chippewa Valley High School.  She did a phenomenal job scoring 97 out of 100 points on her flute solo, Proficiency One (sophomore level) scales and sight reading.  She will be playing in the District 16 honors Band along with Jacob Gilbert.  Rachel also earned a scholarship to attend Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp this summer.  Quite a week for this young flute player.

MSVMA State Solo and Ensemble - Congratulations to Haley Fortuna, Corri Andress, and Daniel Seguin who performed two solo selections and sight reading for an adjudicator at state solo and ensemble.  All three student earned a Division 1 Ranking.  They were judged on a variety of musical elements including sight reading, tone, breath, musical and language elements, interpretation, and presentation.  Way to go singers!
